On Holy Tuesday evening at the Gethsemane Monastery of St. Mary Magdalene a sister of the Bethany community of the Resurrection of Christ received the monastic tonsure.
The Head of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission, Archimandrite Roman (Krassovsky), accepted the monastic vows of rassophore nun Nymphodora (Gofferman) and tonsured her with the name Nicholaia in honor of St. Nicholas, the Wonderworker of Myra-Lycia.
Mother Nikolaia holds her obedience in the metochion of the monastery of St. Mary Magdalene in Bethany. Besides St. Lazarus of the-four-days with his sisters Martha and Mary, St. Nicholas is also a heavenly patron of the monastery. The cave church of the monastery was built in honor of the great wonderworker.
In his parting words, Fr. Roman emphasized to the newly tonsured nun that she has the opportunity to resort to St. Nicholas with all her spiritual questions and needs in his holy temple.
