Riassophore Тonsure on Olivet

On April 12/25, 2024, on Thursday of the Holy Week, two tonsures into riassa took place at the Holy Ascension Monastery on the Mount of Olives.

The tonsures were performed by the Head of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem, Archimandrite Roman (Krassovsky).

Novices Tamara Scheslavskaya and Elena Dimitrieva received monastic blessing with the names Theodula in honor of the Venerable Theodula Abbess of Tabbena (celebrated on Cheesefare Saturday) and Sabina in honor of the Holy Martyr Sabina (Savina) of Smyrna (March 11/24). Mother Varvara (Novikova), the abbess of the convent, accepted the newly tonsured under her responsibility.

At the end of the rite, Archimandrite Roman spoke a word of edification about the temptations that occur at the beginning of a monastic podvig.

Then Mother Varvara and the sisters congratulated the newly tonsured riassophore nuns.
