On the day of the commemoration of the Holy Righteous Philaret the Merciful, December 1/14, the patronal feast of the refectory church in his name at the Mount of Olives Convent was celebrated
The Head of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem, Archimandrite Roman (Krassovsky), led the divine services in the church, which was decorated with flowers in advance by the sisters of the monastery.
In the morning after the consecration of water was served, the Head of the Mission, co-served by Archimandrite Innokenty (Sereda), Abbot Iona (Galishnikov) and Hierodeacon Amfilohy (Mazur), celebrated the Divine Liturgy. In his sermon, Fr. Roman pointed to the humility and longsuffering of this saint and how he inspired other fathers bearing his name by his example – Saints Philaret of Moscow, Philaret of Kiev, Philaret of Chernigov, as well as the First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia – Metropolitan Philaret (Voznesensky).
After the the Liturgy, a moleben to St. Philaret was served. The clergy, the abbess of the monastery, Mother Barbara with her sisters and pilgrims made a procession around the church with the sprinkling of holy water.
