On the day of the commemoration of the Holy Righteous Philaret the Merciful, December 1/14, the patronal feast of the refectory church in his name at the Mount of Olives Convent was celebrated
The Head of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem, Archimandrite Roman (Krassovsky), led the divine services. Archimandrite Vassian, the Head of the REM of the Moscow Patriarchate co-served with Fr. Roman along with the clergy of the Mission – Abbot Iona (Galishnikov), Hieromonk Gerasim (Kotovsky), Hierodeacon Amfilokhy (Mazur) and Deacon Makary Petukhov of the Moscow Mission.
In his sermon, Archimandrite Roman emphasized the importance of mercy in our Christian life. The main point is to be on good terms with your loved ones. Be indulgent, kind, refrain from offensive words and be ready to help people. Recalling the words from the Lenten Triodion: “Come, let us cleanse ourselves with alms and the generosity tof the poor,” Fr. Roman reminded that now is the time of Lent and giving alms to those in need is a great blessing in the eyes of God.
After the the Liturgy, a moleben to St. Philaret was served. The clergy, the abbess of the monastery, Mother Barbara with her sisters and pilgrims served a moleben with a procession around the church with the sprinkling of holy water.
