On May 9, at the invitation of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Israel Anatoly Dimitrievich Viktorov, the Head of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission (as part of the Russian Church Abroad), Archimandrite Roman (Krassovsky) attended a reception at the Russian Embassy on the celebration of the 79th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War. Fr. Roman was accompanied by the elder sister of the Bethany community of the Resurrection of Christ, nun Maria (Wall).
The solemn evening was also attended by His Beatitude Theophilus ӀӀӀ, Patriarch of the holy city of Jerusalem and all Palestine, Secretary of the Synod of the Greek Patriarchate, Archbishop of Constantine Aristarchus, Head of the REM (as part of the Moscow Patriarchate, Archimandrite Vassian (Zmeev) with clergy from the Mission.
Among the officials at the reception were former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Deputy Director General of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs Yu. Fuchs, ambassadors, and representatives of the diplomatic missions of the Russian Federation and other states, Israeli politicians and public figures and veterans of the Great Patriotic War.
The next day, Archimandrite Roman attended a reception in Bethlehem where the Russians living in Palestine performed a play “St. George’s Ribbon”. Thematic photo exhibitions, and “memory stands” with photographs of veterans of the Great Patriotic War - grandfathers and great-grandfathers of compatriots living in different cities of Palestine - were held.
The reception was attended by Gocha Levanovich Buachidze, Chief of the Mission of the Russian Federation to the Palestinian National Authority in Ramallah.
